Los Angeles Day Of Mindfulness
June 16 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Day of Mindfulness
Please join the monastics of Deer Park Monastery for a Day of Mindfulness with the theme “Getting Comfortable with Uncomfortable: Acting on Compassion” at Angel’s Gate Cultural Center & Korean Friendship Bell Park (Directions to AGCC – PDF), an historic WWII-era army barracks-turned-artist community, overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
Our schedule for the day:
We invite you to bring a mat & cushion, blanket or mat to lie on for deep relaxation, sack lunch, bottle of water, mug for tea, and an optional snack to share. The weather can get chilly in the afternoons near the ocean, so please bring warm layers. Voluntary dana of $5-10 would be welcomed to cover space rental and monastic dana.
We welcome families to come and practice together with us. Children are welcome at all sangha activities. However, we will not be able to provide a children’s program.
No preregistration required. Please bring your own vegan or vegetarian lunch.
It can get quite chilly in the late afternoon near the ocean. Please bring warm layers.
Information for parents:
We welcome families to come and practice together with us. Children are welcome at all sangha activities. However, we will not be able to provide a children’s program. Angel’s Gate Cultural Center is a great place for older kids to explore from Bldg H (where the day of mindfulness will take place) to the ocean, if you trust their good sense. However, some possible falls could be serious if one is not paying attention, as this is an area with cliffs and cement gun emplacements. (cement “sidewalk” on top, cement ampitheater type space below, & potential steep fall. Worst one has now been fenced off.) There is also a playground with swings, slides, climbing apparatus, & picnic tables near the Korean Bell as well as an area with mostly shaded picnic tables near the building where the DOM will be held. Parents could bring art supplies to share and take turns supervising at either location.
If anyone is interested in volunteering to set up before, or clean up after, the event, please email email@example.com
